shouldn't there be an 'is' in there somewhere? lol

j/k

Mine, by far, is Eisenhorn (and that whole trilogy).

Basically, Abnett is the MAN.

Hard to pick just one...but I think my favorite is probably Sabbat Martyr. Basically anything by Abnett are amongst my favorites.

Ah, well... Ian sure did try, didn't he?

It was early on. It was the first Warhammer 40K novels. He wasn't probably the biggest fan ever.

It wasn't that bad. It's not up to par now, but it was pretty decent (until the end) for the early 90's.

Yeah. They became a bit unfocused and lost their scope. Though his novel Space Marine that they never reprinted wasn't as bad.

Ghostmaker had some pretty deep stories. Granted it was a montage of short stories really, but still...the one with Mad Larkin...damn!
I started with Sabbat Martyr unfortunately, now I'm working my way through the rest from the beginning. Started Necropolis last night. So far they are all good. Dan Abnett is the MAN! Kinda sucks knowing what happens in Sabbat Martyr and THEN reading the preceeding books.

Eisenhorn was very good.
I enjoyed Dawn of War and Gilead's Blood.
Dead Sky Black Sun I found was the last in a series, started there too [figures]. It was okay. Seemed gratuitously graphic at times, but dealing with
the subject matter i guess it makes sense.

Magestorm was good.
Bored with Hammers of Ulric.

The Inquisition War was good. No where near as good as the Eisenhorn series, but still...in consideration of when it was written, it kept my attention and inspired me to buy more books and minis, which is really what it's all about.

Really? I liked Hammers Of Ulric...

I was a bit bored with Dead Sky Black Sun, so I never got very far into it before switching to another book. Didn't know that the series was ending. I'll have to finish reading it sometime.

The only books I really had trouble getting through lately were the Soul Drinker novels. The first one was okay, but the second was pretty dull.

And Crusade For Armageddon was hard to get into.

How many times did we need to be told "sarpedon was a telepath who couldn't recieve but could transmit images"

Blah i got bored of that point being repeated every ten pages.

Bill King did something similiar... how many times did Gotrek's axe carve a path of red ruin?

Re: Dont recall the name

Wasn't that the last one, Traitor General?

I read them all so fast that I barely remember the plots anymore. Not that my memory lasts for very long anyway.

Favorite Book.

Execution Hour.

It builds story like no novel I have ever read, completing only 10% of it's plot and throwing the rest into mystery. I dread the day I complete the tale...lest it be lost from my thoughts.

Re: Favorite Book.

That was a great book. I think it's the most ripe to be turned into a large-budget movie. It has all the features of 40K that you'd want to show off in a film.

Sadly, Shadowpoint was not nearly as good and lost Execution Hour's momentum.

Eisenhorn. Without question (specifically Malleus - the 2nd one - but i see them all as one book really!)

Many of the series have a very tied-together nature... It isn't just the same characters. The story actually flows continuously.

William King always ends his Gotrex & Felix novels very abruptly without any sort of real climax and then picks up in the next novel to tie up the end of the last story. Which I actually find fairly annoying.

But Abnett's work is all best read together as a whole.

Execution hour gets my vote... however the Entire Guant series comes a horribly close second. (Guants Ghost has made my eyes fill and lip wobble more than once... {end of Necropolis and his reappearence on the battle field in His Last Command})
