It's been awhile since I posted in this damned place... So I just thought I'd swing by and say that I picked up the Blackhearts Omnibus by Nathan Long. I have the first book, Valnir's Bane, so the Omnibus with the other two novels and a couple short stories (one of which was lengthened from it's original version) seemed like a fair bet. We'll see how it goes...

I also finally got my hands on Wild Kingdoms and Savage City by Robert Earl. I really dug The Burning Shore and so this made me happy. I was even happier to discover that these follow-up books were great fun to read. Not perfect, but fun. I don't like the fact that a major plot-point is revealed on the back of the cover to Savage City (which also had a typo, if I'm not mistaken). Anyone else read this series?

And as my icon suggests, I fit in Fell Cargo by the immortal Dan Abnett before the aforementioned. I had the book for quite some time, so it was nice to get to it (fully). A rolicking great time of a tale! Short, sweet, and full-on action. Easily read and enjoyed by most Warhammer fans, I'd say.

Hope you all are well! And what Warhammery goodness have you been reading?

Oh, and interestingly, I discovered Nathan Long's blog... which is right here on Livejournal.

Cheers :)

The last Black Library book I read was Fulgrim, which was, no surprise, freakin' fantastic. I love the Horus Heresy series so much. I need to pick me up a copy of Descent Of Angels once I finish my current book.

Fell Cargo was a great book. Not especially deep, but it was just *fun*. You gotta love Abnett's punchy action writing.

I've never read the Blackhearts series, but it looks interesting. I might pick it up, if you'd recommend it.

I need to get back to the Horus Heresy series... It -is- damned good, but I stopped reading 40k books for awhile (needed a break).

According to Mr. Abnett's blog, he'd like to do a follow-up to Fell Cargo after he gets some other things done. Don't quote me, but that's what he seemed to be saying. Abnett's got punchy action writing down pat!

As for the Blackhearts series, Valnir's Bane was a fun book. The main starting-thrust is certainly borrowed from "Dirty Dozen" (as Long humourosly points out in his forward), but it's a well written action ride from there. I'm only assuming that the other two novels and expanded short stories are just as good. And hey, the Omnibus is pretty cheap. :)

It's not surprising that Nathan Long was selected to pick up the Felix and Gotrek novels where Bill King left off... Which reminds me: I need to pick up the new Felix and Gotrek novel!
